Redesigned: Scholars Day website
(opens new window) (opens new window)
Scholars Day is a series of events that we invite highly qualified incoming students to campus to gain membership in to the Honors College or the Community of Scholars and potentially secure a scholarship. The event has changed over the past few years and the current website did not reflect the new events and look of the marketing materials. We needed to change the look and functionality of the RSVP system on the site.
# Visual refresh
Although the website only has a handful of pages, they are visited by the brightest and best students so they need to look good. All of the invite materials point the students to scholarsday.wayne.edu (opens new window). Sometimes the events overlap so it was important to make it easy for the student to see and pick the date they plan to attend.
The design we choose was simple yet effective. Large visually impacting images to show off campus and our students. They give the tone of excitement and being part of a community of scholars. The menu is short and concise and the homepage features large buttons for the upcoming event dates and other events of interest. The old website did not feature any of these action items.
# RSVP functionality
A second purpose to the redesign was to overhaul the RSVP system for the event. It may not seem like a lot but the previous RSVP functionality was intense to say the least, it detracted prospective students. We made it simple by only requiring the student's ID and asking just a few simple questions. From this we can get everything we need to follow up with them and check them in at the event.
