Launch: General Counsel website

(opens new window) (opens new window)

This last week we launched our next longest running project, the Office of the General Counsel (opens new window). It is the first time the General Counsel has had a website and although it is not overly complex it accomplishes some much needed goals.

# Design

The overall look of the site was developed a while ago and does not exactly fit into our newest approach to a semi integrated Web presence but it serves its purpose. The site doesn't have a header, but instead a flag coming down from the university header. The flag bottom points right to the navigation which is two levels deep. The second level is represented on the right side of the screen instead of the left. This balances the height of the page on all three columns.

# Content

Making legal content "Web friendly" is a larger task than our department or the General Counsel anticipated. It is what held up the launch of the site for over a year. The General Counsel is involved in matters all across the university and having a website that encompasses the expanse of what they do and who is doing it is important. Having every service they offer, all the policies in one place and external resources available helps to make the website as self service as possible.

The goal with the site was to make the "legal" department human. This was accomplished by making the staff available via their direct contact information and use of photos.

# Upcoming sites

In the near future the Office of Labor Relations and Office of Equal Opportunity will be getting make overs to align with the new General Counsel website look. We will be sure to post their launches here.
