The area's leading creators, catalysts, entrepreneurs, artists, technologists, designers, scientists, thinkers and doers will gather on Wednesday, September 29th (opens new window) to share what they are most passionate about — positive ideas for the world from Detroit.

TED (opens new window) is an annual event where the top minds in the world share, connect and inspire. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design — three subjects that, collectively, shape our future. The event draws CEOs, scientists, creatives, philanthropists and extraordinary speakers including Bill Clinton, Jane Goodall, Frank Gehry, Sir Richard Branson, Philippe Starck and Bono.

TEDx expands TED beyond its annual conference by seeding smaller, independent events throughout the nation, called TEDx. How is Wayne State Involved?

The Web Communications (opens new window) department with support from Marketing and Communications (opens new window) is proud to be part of the team to bring TEDxDetroit to the Wayne State University (opens new window) campus. Within our department we take time each week to watch a TED video and be inspired and discuss as a group. We document the video and the discussion each week in the TEDx Wayne State Blog (opens new window).

I attended the 2009 TEDxDetroit event and was inspired to do more for the event, Detroit and Wayne State. I got on board and suggested WSU as a venue, we didn't have enough space in an on campus building during a school day (General Lectures is full all day long) so we decided to go across the street to the DIA (opens new window). Just one advantage of Wayne State being in the middle of Detroit's cultural center. The venue is beautiful and will be a perfect spot to be entertained, inspired and connect with others doing great things.
